RAIN CAN’T STOP ALBIE
With the winter weather well and truly setting in, this weekend was to be a test of stamina in the harsh conditions.
Saturday testing went really well. Albie topped Practice 1 by over half a second and then a top 5 in second practice! Qualifying was shaping up to be awesome… and then it came. The rain that had been threatening all day started to rain down. With a swift switch to a wet setup we were off. Albie managed to stay within the top FIVE for most of the session, narrowly being pipped in the final stages and settling for P9. A bit of work to do, but definitely a strong qualifying!
Sunday consisted of two heats and a final. The rain that came on Saturday was still here…perhaps we should have packed oars after all!
Heat one and a P9 start, Albie makes a MEGA start and is up to P6 in the first lap! The battle in front started getting a little messy and a tit for tat overtaking battle ensued for the remainder of the race. Finishing a respectable 7th meant a good few positions gained for the final. Heat 2 and another mega start by Albie, by lap three he’d made it to 5th and was pushing hard. The fight for 4th was tough, but wasn’t quite achievable and Albie ended up settling for 6th place and another good haul of points, roll on the final!
As with Albie now trademark starts… a sublime opening lap saw Albie move to 6th and then onto 5th place where the tussels and elbows really did start to fly! Albie fluctuated between 5th and 7th, with some awesome battles each and every lap. The rain still hammered him, but it just didn’t faze Albie. Finished with a P5 and proved that the every fast Friend was going to be a 2022 contender.
A great weekend overall! Time to dry out before the trip to Bahrain next weekend! (at least the weather is sure to be drier than this weekend!)
